Irkutsk & Lake Baikal

If you make only one stop on the Transsiberian, it should be Irkutsk. In this city, you’ll find the people rather more friendly and relaxed than the people in European Russia. Along many of the streets you can still see the cosy-looking log cabins which are typical of the Siberian style of domestic architecture. More info.

64km from Irkutsk is Lake Baikal, set amongst some of the world’s most beautiful countryside. More info

The Spanish girls and the waitress of the train (the one at the left)... So many days together that she was almost part of the family.

Some food to buy during the stops... And of course, twelve kinds of beer.

The stewardesses of the carriage ;-)

Part-time smoker... Only if he finds nice stubs...
City Hall of Irkutsk, the old KGB building One of the many little Russian chappells…
Even here the Polish came to build a cathedral...

orthodox church under restoration...

Weekend excursion to the river ¡I got you!

The compulsory picture with our collegue Vladimir... Not even in India...

Hats more fashionable than in the wedding of prince Charles... Baikal: An incomparable place to break up your horns...
If you pay attention, you might even see the other side of the lake Baikal... Listvyanka:

Many many market stalls for the tourists...

Siberia, a Sun & Beach destination... What the hell does a ship with European flag in a lake in the middle of Russia?!
Insects, insects and even more insects...
A second statue of Lenin in the city! And really flashy! An inflatable pub!
No matter what, carry something to drink... Stupid from top to toe...
The foggy Angara river. It is the only one that flows from the Baikal lake, all the rest flow towards it. Our saviour Saint Alexei. He resqued us from the streets and invited us to his secretary’s birthday party, a smart guy!
Even the girls drink straight vodka, my god... Strangers in the niiight... lalala, lalá...
GO EAST!

About to leave for Mongolia.
